MoU signed with Africa Higher Education Research Institute(AHERI)

The Africa Higher Education Research Institute (AHERI) and Basic Internet Foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the 13th of December 2019.

AHERI is a non-governmental organisation an affiliate of Community Initiative Support Services (CISS) whose objectives is to promote and support networking among higher education researchers, carry out relevant research aimed at improving higher education, and advocate for implementation of the research findings within the higher education sector. The organisations goal is to catalyse local solutions towards sustainable development in African states. AHERI holds Conferences that are aimed at improving learner’s skills by empowering professionals from various sectors with innovative technologies.

The Basic Internet Foundation promotes free access to information for all, and has established community-driven informations spots to provide free access. Information provided by the foundation is in the form of compressed text, images and local content from the Information Spot. The foundation has established infrastructure to extend the mobile network, and provides wireless access.

This partnership aims to promote digital inclusion and innovation in higher learning institutions through allocating Information centres , connecting schools and establishing information spots in the various areas in the Lake Victoria Basin Region in Kenya while looking for partnerships that will extend this to other counties in the country.

Our call for action entails invitation of shareholders to the digital inclusion agenda and project, entrepreneurial experts, funding mechanisms via donor institutions, partners from both the public and private sectors and other non-governmental organisations.

Two examples addressing the role of broadband, regulations and municipal networks. And they leave the question:
What can we do to give everyone free access to information?
